JoAnn

The JoAnn Burke Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of my mother, who left us entirely too soon in March 2009. She was an established medical technologist and worked for many years in the lab at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Her love of chemistry led her in this career direction, and she excelled in her field.

JoAnn (McDermott) Burke was born in Pittsfield and attended St. Charles, St. Joe and Pittsfield High School (PHS). She was a 1966 graduate of PHS and she graduated from North Adams State College (now MCLA) with a BS in Medical Technology in 1972.

My mom was most interested in reading, baking, sewing and needlework (and shopping for anything related to these hobbies!). In retrospect, it's clear she enjoyed activities that require skill, time, precision and patience. She left behind a treasure of quilts, table runners, doilies and cross-stitch craftwork, nearly all of which were gifts for loved ones.

All are welcome to donate to this scholarship in JoAnn's memory. Please see the Donate page for more information.
